Geneva Institute of Trade for Peace

The Geneva Institute for Trade for Peace (GITP) seeks to support the efforts of developing
and least developed countries (LDCs) especially fragile states affected by conflicts, to
integrate into the global economy according to suitable conditions that consider their special
circumstances to enable them to participate effectively in international trade and the World
Trade Organization (WTO).


Equally, GITP works to defend interests of these countries to enabling them to leverage the
WTO regulatory framework to establish the solid foundations for national institutions on
transparent bases and in accordance with national priorities to lay the necessary
groundwork for achieving sustainable development.

The overall objectives of GITP

Raising awareness and knowledge about the importance of the effective
participation of the FCS in the international trading system for the

creation of a conducive environment for sustainable development and peace.

Firstly

Considering the exceptional circumstances facing this category of countries in
structural, economic, and security aspects and granting them special and preferential
treatment with a comprehensive package of technical assistance.

Secondly,

providing urgent contributions to these countries to enable them to address their
supply-side constraints. This through building the necessary infrastructures to exploit their
resources and facilitate their access to markets at lower costs.

Thirdly

it depends also on the optimal utilization of the legal framework of the WTO to
reinforce transparent practices at the national level. Not only for sake of mere participation
in the organization’s activities but also to reduce factors of fragility and combat corruption at
all levels.
